| The Electronic
Scoring System that TORO has purchased is produced by Berkut
Systems and John Bouma (www.berkutsystems.com). The system
uses a tubular shaped transponder much like the one used by
the TCCRA. Though the transponders look much the same they act
quite differently so please understand that your other
transponder will not work with our system.
The scoring system that will be employed this season has
several huge advantages that will save time in the race day
and make life easier on the staff and the racers.
1. No stopping in the scoring chute so less
chance of a traffic jam at eth barrels.
2. Scores are posted much quicker than when using a
manual scoring system.
3. Once your transponder is assigned to you it can be
used at sign up for an event.
4. Transponders may be worn or mounted any where on
the rider or motorcycle as long as its mounting place meets
two requirements. 1) No metal of any kind may cover either end
of or touch the transponder. 2) The transponder must pass
through the scoring area in a horizontal position with it's
ends facing the sides of the scoring chute.
After testing several systems myself and Jeff VanMatre, who
will be your Scoring Director for 2003-2004 Series, decided
that this system offered the best advantages to both the racer
and the scoring staff. Cost to the racer will be the cost of
his/her transponder which will be around $15.00 actual cost
will be determined upon receipt of the transponders.
A single transponder may be used for different classes,
however the transponder must be re-coded for each class. It
will be the riders responsibility to ensure that his
transponder is correctly coded for his/her upcoming class.
TORO tries very hard to adhere to a tight schedule on race
weekend so it may be that the burden of having a single
transponder changed between races my be more than the cost of
an additional transponder.
