Scoring Qualifier Events

A Qualifier event is very similar to a Hare Scramble event, with a significant exception.

In a Hare Scramble event, riders are arranged in distinct classes on the starting line, and every rider is started with the rest of the riders in his class.

In a Qualifier event, the objective is to determine the riders time on the course, without the need for all riders in a class to start at the same time.

The best way to highlight how the Race Timer handles the scoring is to compare it to the scoring in the Hare Scramble mode.  In the Hare Scramble mode, the Race Timer system uses the starting times of the individual classes when calculating the overall rider positions, offsetting the riders times by the difference in when each class left the starting line. In the Hare Scramble mode, there are no allowances for differences in starting times when calculating the individual class standings since it is assumed everyone in a class starts at the same time.

In the Qualifier mode however, promoters have the ability to start riders of any class, at any time, without regard to the number of people on the track nor in what order anyone enters the course.

The Race Timer system expects that promoters will funnel riders through the checkpoint when they enter the course, and that riders will get on the gas as soon as they leave the checkpoint.  In essence, the checkpoint becomes the starting line.

The system records the starting time for each rider, and then in future calculations, it adjusts the time of each rider, referenced to the time the first rider entered the course.

So - if you've followed all that, it's possible for a promoter to line all riders in a line, and leisurely wave the riders onto the course, in any particular order, and the system will calculate the results regardless of when any rider actually started the event.
